In a remarkable display of solidarity and compassion, the community came together on Sunday (May 4) to support a cause close to many hearts: hospice care.

This year Hype! for Hospice raised $35,000 for a new hospice and lodge in Strathmore.

"We're all trying to raise funds for the Hospice, but we're also trying to raise friends. In other words, increase awareness in our community. I think we were successful on both," said Dr. Joni McNeely, who was part of the event.

Over 100 people took part in the event put on by the Wheatland and Area Hospice Society.

"The best group we saw there was the scooter gang from the lodge. They were dressed up in bright shirts and scooters, and they did the whole route."

The large group walked Elmer & Phyllis Gray Park, which featured decorations from elementary kids from Golden Hills School Division. Hype! for Hospice also featured music from Bobby Miller, a fire truck pull, and a raffle.

"It's remarkable the amount of enthusiasm that our community has for hospice," said McNeely.
