Wendy Weber, a volunteer at the Wheatland County Foodbank, is the Volunteer of the Month for May!

"I was quite shocked when I got the call. It feels nice to be recognized for what you're doing in the community, but at the same time, many people deserve this," expressed Weber.

Weber volunteers at the Wheatland County Foodbank six times a week.

"Every day, we get donations from the different grocery stores—sometimes Walmart, sometimes Shoppers. So somebody has to be there to receive them and put the perishables and the dairy away because that stuff can't just sit around."

Weber explained that everyone is like family at the food bank.

"We've all been through a lot together. There's a core of us who have gone through many things, and it is family. They're the first ones to give you a hug or the first ones to laugh with you, and it's a lot of fun. If it weren't enjoyable, people wouldn't continue to volunteer."

Although Weber has been volunteering for the food bank for over six years, her journey did not start there.

"When I first came to Strathmore, I volunteered for a while with Better Babies but knew that I needed to get more involved with my community and volunteer at the food bank. It took a little while before they needed more volunteers, but it's been good for me."
