Four dead following crash in Rocky View County
Strathmore RCMP provided an update about the crash on Highway 564 near Highway 9 in Rocky View County from earlier this morning. According to police, initial reports indicate that a semi-truck travelling south on Highway 9 crashed into an SUV after the SUV had rolled through a stop sign while making a northbound turn. Following the crash, both vehicles stopped in the southeast ditch of the intersection. A fire started following the crash, with the semi-truck driver escaping before the blaze began. All four occupants of the SUV were dead at the scene. Police identified the occupants as a 62-year-old woman from Calgary, a 38-year-old man from Calgary, and a man and woman in their early 60s from the Philippines. The driver of the semi-truck, a 68-year-old man, was hauling a grain trailer and only sustained minor injuries. EMS treated him at the scene. RCMP remained at the site for several hours as they conducted an investigation. Traffic flow has returned to the area, but police are advising motorists to drive with caution as the investigation continues.
